George graduated from the Central Medical College in St. Joseph, MO in 1898. On October 1, 1898, he married Helen Green in Oregon, MO and they had 6 known children: Muriel, George Francis Hilton, Jr., James Allison, Harry Rupert, Kathleen (or Catharine) and Mary Cora.
After graduation, Dr. Hilton practiced medicine in Symco, WI for 6 years before moving to Sturgeon Bay, WI in January, 1904 to continue his practice. He was a member of the American Medical Association as well as Door County and Wisconsin Medical Societies.
He moved to Orange, CA and passed away and was buried there in 1956.
