El Dorado Man Is Killed In Train Accident
EL DORADO, Ark. - Funeral services for Smith Kees Goodnight, 70, who died Wednesday from injuries received in the El Dorado railroad yards, will be held in the Immanuel Baptist Church here.
The Rev. J. D. Tollison, pastor of Park View Baptist Church, will officiate at the services.
Other arrangements are incomplete at the Rumph Mortuary pending the arrival of a son.
Mr. Goodnight, car inspector for the Missouri Pacific Railroad, died in the hospital here shortly before noon Wednesday after his left leg was severed near the body and his left arm was mangled. Employees found him lying on the tracks.
It is surmised that Mr. Goodnight was struck by a switching freight train while working between cars in the yard under the Hillsboro Street highway viaduct.
Mr. Goodnight, a native of Collinston, had lived in El Dorado for the past 44 years. He was a long time Missouri-Pacific employee, a Mason and a Baptist.
Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Addie Simpson Goodnight; two sons, L. S. Goodnight of El Dorado, and H. T. Goodnight of Vallejo, Calif.; three daughters, Miss Agnes Goodnight of Tulsa, Okla., Mrs. Velma Redding of Waco, Tex., and Mrs. David Douthitt, of El Dorado; four brothers, J. M. Goodnight, of Collinston, H. T. Goodnight of Sterlington, H. H. Goodnight of Sunray, Tex., and A. P. Goodnight of Birmingham, Ala.; a sister, Mrs. Ella Prestridge of Monroe; and five grandchildren.
