She was born July 29, 1930, to S.K. and Addie Simpson Goodnight in El Dorado. She was an active member of Immanuel Baptist Church and sang in the choir, she had a beautiful alto voice, taught Sunday School and was a member of the "Unbirthday Club." Martha was a retired secretary for Lion Oil where she worked with the engineers. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, who loved sewing and reading her Bible.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, David Gilmer Douthitt; son, Robert Edward Douthitt; step-son, Greg Simmons; step-daughter, Robin Simmons; two sisters, Velma Reding and Agnes Anderson; and three brothers, Leonard Goodnight, Gerald Goodnight and James Goodnight.
Survivors include her husband of 29 years, John Burt Simmons; daughter, Lucy Ann Arnold (Ray) of Springdale; son, Daniel David Douthitt of El Dorado; step-son, Steve Simmons of El Dorado; granddaughter, Lauren Rebecca Tilton of Little Rock; grandson, James Aaron Tilton (Katie) of Dallas; great-grandson, Blake Tilton; nephew, Cliff Reding (Charlotte) of Denton, Texas; and two brothers-in-law, Jack Reding of Denton and Milton Simmons (Mary) of Shreveport, La.
Visitation will be from 5 until 7 p.m. today at Young's Funeral Home.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 16, at Immanuel Baptist Church with the Rev. Bruce Murphy and Kay Rudell officiating. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery under the direction of Young's Funeral Directors.
