NORFOLK - Lois Adkins Pope passed away Dec. 13, 2010, in Sentara Leigh Hospital. She was born in Starke, Fla., May 17, 1917, to the late Florida Circuit Court Judge and Mrs. A. Z. Adkins. She was the widow of Dr. B.A. Pope Jr., who practiced veterinary medicine in Norfolk for 40 years. Lois and Ashby were married for 50 years. Lois was a graduate of Florida State University and a member of Pi Beta Phi sorority. They are survived by three children who were blessed by their example of love and character. They had two sons, Benjamin A. Pope III (Patty) of Norfolk, Dr. Robert A. Pope (Linda) of Virginia Beach, and a daughter, Mary P. Gibson (Don) of Mount Pleasant, S.C. Her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren will cherish her memory. Lois was a member of Royster Memorial Presbyterian Church, a charter member of the Elizabeth River Woman's Club and a member of the Norfolk Yacht and Country Club. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 17, in Royster Memorial Presbyterian Church by the Rev. Dr. John R. Monroe. A private burial will take place in Forest Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Tidewater Drive Chapel, Thursday from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to Royster Memorial Presbyterian Church, 6901 Newport Ave., Norfolk, VA 23505.
