OBITUARY :
LARRY E. NEWMAN, 71, of Chambersburg, died Sunday, July 29, 2012, of a drowning incident at the Aitch Boat Launch, Penn Twp., Huntingdon Co.

Born January 30, 1941, in Clay Twp., Huntingdon Co., he was a son of the late Earl D. & Hilda L. (Black) Newman.

He is survived by his companion, Marjorie Hamsher, at their home.

He is also survived by one brother, Wallace R. Newman of Chambersburg; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Two brothers, Donald E. Newman and Douglas F. Newman and one sister, Isabelle Betty Kough Duncan preceded in death.

One brother, James Newman, died in infancy.

Mr. Newman was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Three Springs.

He retired from Sprint, Chambersburg, after 33 years service. Prior to that he was employed by D. W. Miller, Inc., Huntingdon.

He was a veteran of the Pennsylvania National Guard where he served as a cook.

He was known as "Uncle Larry" to many more people than just his family.

He loved trains, was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed traveling. He went to Canada on family fishing trips every year since 1946, going to Robertson Lake and more recently to Bennett Lake with several generations of family members.

He was a mentor to his nieces and nephews and took great pride in the accomplishments of his family.

He enjoyed many trips to the "The Farm" for hunting and family reunions.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Martin R. Brown Funeral Home, 565 Ridgley St., Orbisonia. Interment will be made at Center Cemetery, RD, Waterfall.

Friends may call at the funeral home 11 a.m. until the hour of the service on Saturday.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Huntingdon Co. Humane Society, 11371 School House Hollow Road, Huntingdon, PA 16652; or to the Center U.M. Women's Group, P.O. Box 114, Waterfall, PA 16689.
