Son of Joseph Conaway of Virgina and Catherine Nixon of Ohio, who were married on 7 February 1833 in Ross County, Ohio.

Harrison Conaway and brother John W. Conaway entered service September 2 1861 for a 3 year term, Both were assigned to Company A of the 57th Regiment OVI, which mustered in at Camp Vance in Findlay OH.

Pvt. Harrison Conaway died from disease 19 May 1862 at Shiloh, TN, and was buried at Shiloh National Military Park.

Brother Pvt. John W Conaway died 8 August 1862 from wounds received from a falling tree while the regiment was on duty at Memphis, TN. Location of burial currently unknown.
