Elizabeth was born on 28 Jul 1792 in Elk Lick, Somerset County, Pennsylvania, United States. She was the daughter of Rev. Jacob Beeghly (1766-1834) and Mary Polly Hendricks Beeghly (1776-1831).

Elizabeth Beeghly married John J. Bowman Sr. (1781-1867) in Maryland on November 30, 1807. John was the son of Jacob Bowman (1744-1831) and Marie Barbara Bowman.

John and Elizabeth had sixteen children: Benjamin, Polly, David, Daniel L., Sarah, Samuel B., Elizabeth, John J. Jr., Solomon J., Jacob, Joshua H., Emanual, Peter, Delilah, Susanna and Barbara.
