John R. Miller was born in Ryegate, VT the son of Robert Miller (1810-1899) and Margaret Park(1808-1886). He married Emily, the daughter of M. R. Gray, in Dec. 1882. He was involved in a teaming and trucking business in Boston some years with his brother A. A. Miller, and retired to the family homestead in Ryegate.
