James Marion "Jim" Adams was born on 15 April 1855 in Habersham County, Georgia to William L. Adams and Mary Ann "Polly" (Whitley) Adams. Jim had one older and two younger sisters. His siblings were: Edith Catherine "Katie" Adams; Harriet Bethenia Adams; Theodocia "Docia" Adams. Their parents William and Mary died sometime after the 1860 Census and before the 1870 Census.

He married Samantha Savana Johnson on 12 July 1882 in Hamilton County, Texas. He was 27 years old at the time of his marriage.

Jim and Samantha Adams bore 9 children, two of whom did not survive past infancy. The family lived in Star, Mills County, Texas.

James Marion "Jim" Adams died on 11 April 1935 in Star, Mills County, Texas. (Texas D/C #20139.) He died from a heart-attack and complications from the flu. The informant on his death certificate is his brother-in-law, Thomas Jefferson Williams. He died in his home of Star, Texas, where he was a farmer, had raised his children, and lived with his wife of 50 years. He's buried in Hurst Ranch Cemetery, Hamilton County, Texas, which is right at the boarder of Hamilton and Mills Counties, Texas, and very close to his house in Star.
