William Coram was one of only two Revolutionary War soldiers who served in the Commander in Chief's Guard, the elite bodyguard unit for General George Washington, for the entire duration of the unit's existence (1777-1783). He was discharged from the Commander in Chief's Guard as a Sergeant in 1783 and died in 1821 in Warren County, Georgia. He is buried in an unknown location in Warren County.
