As a young girl Jeanette and her family worked as tenant farmers in tobacco fields. She helped raise her younger siblings: one brother and five half-brothers.

She left East Tennessee in her mid-twenties to start a new life in Baltimore, Maryland. Within a few years, Jeanette made two lifelong friends: Rella Farlow, and Rita Davis. At first she babysat for a cousin's children. Later she worked in factories, including Federal Tin Company, until she married Bob Heath in 1958.

Jeanette lovingly raised two daughters in Anne Arundel County, Maryland. Sadly, a baby boy died shortly his after birth in 1963.

She was a fine country cook. Fried chicken, chicken and dumplings and vegetable soup were a few of her best-loved dishes. She grew a large garden and canned many dozen quarts of vegetables every year. Jeanette took pride in her home and yard. She prized her canna lilies and hollyhocks.

Jeanette returned to Tennessee in 1982, residing in Morristown until she died of lung cancer in 1995. She loved the Lord, going to church, and spending time with her extended family and especially her grandchildren.
