Daughter of a farmer who was also a Baptist minister, Ida May Mullins married twice and raised ten children to adulthood. She lived a hardscrabble existence not uncommon to many East Tennesseeans in the early twentieth century. Her first husband died young and her second did not work steadily. To provide for her family, she sharecropped tobacco in Claiborne County and took in boarders after moving to Morristown in Hamblen County. She outlived most of her children and is remembered as a hard-working woman.

Children with Commie Standifer: Reuben, Charlie Dean, Geneva, Jeanette, Dewey and Grover. Another child, John, was born December 21, 1933 and died July 13, 1934. The child's death certificate did not identify where he was buried, but it was likely Yellow Springs Cemetery.

Children with Dewey Ratliff: Dannie, Hughie, George, Billy, David, and Wayne.
