Graveside funeral services for Mrs. Effie Lorene Akers Thompson, age 97, are scheduled for 2 p.m. Monday, July 30, 2012 at Christ Church Cemetery with Rev. Jeff May officiating. Visitation will be held Sunday from 6-8 p.m. at Golden Funeral Home.

Mrs. Thompson, a resident of Bastrop, passed away Saturday, July 28, 2012. She was a homemaker and a retired cafeteria cook with the Morehouse Parish School System. She was a member of White Avenue Baptist Church.

Mrs. Thompson is preceded in death by her husband, Advil William Thompson; parents, Robert Clark Akers and Emrie Catherine Dew Akers; great grandson, Sam Tanksley; and eight brothers and sisters.

She is survived by two daughters, Barbara Nell Dean of Monroe, LA, Mary Catherine Freeman and husband Jerry of Hamburg, AR; son, Delmar Ray Thompson and wife Harol Lynn of Heflin, LA; two sisters-in-law, Jimmie Akers of Texas, Billie Akers of Arkansas; eight grandchildren, David Thompson, Cindy Jones, Billy Thompson, Chuck Dean, Brian Dean, Cassie Owens, Zana Johnson, Penni Douglas; seventeen great grandchildren; and two great great grandchildren.

Serving as pallbearers will be Chuck Dean, Brian Dean, David Thompson, Billy Thompson, Dylan Dean, and Charlie Dean.
