Mrs. Aura Haley Akers Johnson, 97, of Bastrop, LA, who was born December 25, 1906 in Hamburg, died Friday, June 18, 2004, at the Hickory Manor Nursing Home in Bastrop. Mrs. Johnson was a resident of Bastrop for the past 35 years and a former resident of Wilmot, Parkdale and Hamburg. She operated Caldwell's Dry Good Store in Parkdale for many years and also worked at Janes Grocery Store in Wilmot. She was a member of the White Avenue Baptist Church in Bastrop.


She is survived by her sister, Lorene Thompson of Bastrop; a step-daughter, Frances Lint of Shreveport, LA; two sisters-in-law, Jimmie Akers of Groves, TX, and Billie Akers of Hot Springs; a son-in-law, D.Y. Calhoun III of Shreveport; two grandchildren, Statia Neel of Shreveport and Dallas Calhoun IV of Austin, TX; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jeff Taylor Johnson, in 1955; her daughter, Polly Johnson Calhoun; her brother-in-law, Advil Thompson, a son-in-law, Warren Lint, her parents, Robert Clark and Catherine Dew Akers; five brothers, Rob, Foster, Fletcher, Idell & Troy Akers and two sisters, Floy Tankersley and Ellena Akers.

Grave-side funeral services and interment were at 10 a.m. Monday, June 21, at the Hamburg Cemetery with Rev. Charles Calhoun officiating. Funeral arrangements were by Jones-Hartshorn Funeral Home of Hamburg.
