Obituary.

Died, at Forest City, Holt county, Mo., October 19th, 1881, Mrs. Nancy Baldwin, aged 62 years.

Mrs. Baldwin was born in Ross county, Ohio, October 9th, 1819, and resided there with her parents during the early part of her life. In the Spring of 1841, she married Joel Baldwin, and in the spring of the same year, they moved to Nodaway county, Mo. Mrs. Baldwin became the mother of eight children, five of whom are still living: one daughter and four sons. In the year 1850, Joel Baldwin bought and moved on a farm in Holt county, Mo., on a part of which they have since resided. Mr. Baldwin died the 6th of June, 1874.

Mrs. Baldwin possessed one of the finest qualities of human nature: "Hospitality." Her house was never too full of company, but one more could find rest, and the chairs around her table were never so many, but that one more could find room there. Her real enjoyment was to be amongst young people; to direct their plays and take part in their pleasures. From childhood up till middle age, Mrs. Baldwin led the frontier life, and its exposures sapped her rugged constitution. For more than a year past, she became ailing, failing and at last bedfast, though during last summer she rallied again, and was well enough to move about. The cool and changeable autumn breezes however affected her lungs, and a week before her death, she became aware, that her earthly life was ebbing away. Amongst her last words were "I have worked for my children and raised them; may they now take care of themselves; but my eyes are weak; I hope that death will relieve me." Death came and closed her lips and eyes and gave glow to her cheeks, that brought back her beautiful features of early years. We laid her alongside of her husband, and covered the grave with the green turf. Because for many years coming, hundreds will remember and mourn the death of the kind and pleasant Mrs. Baldwin.
