He attended school at District 53 and also Ruskin High School until he moved with his family to Englewood, Colorado, in 1935. He was associated with his father in a roofing business.
During World War II he served on the U.S.S. Enterprise.
He and his wife, Ann, had four children, Donna Lou, Stanley, Jacquelyn and Johnnie. He is survived by his wife, their children and spouses and a number of grandchildren.
Garth had suffered for several years from lung and heart disease and had been a patient at Porter Memorial Hospital in Denver, Colorado, for some time before his death on March 20, 1986.
He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant brother, James Curtis. He is survived by his four sisters, Mrs. Maxine Ward and Mrs. Joyce Northrup of Englewood, Colorado, Mrs. Ruth Adamson of Salem, Oregon, and Mrs. Marilyn Weber of Albany, New York, and one brother, Neil of Seattle, Washington.
A memorial service was held at Fort Logan, Colorado. The flag presented to his wife will be flown from a pole in the yard at the family hone at 10503 Roxborough Park Road, Littleton, Colorado.
