Rev. James Richardson Isbell, M.D.
His brother Elijah Miller Isbell's bible shows James Isbell born July 19, 1817 and then out beside it in the same hand and pen, "1823-4", wife Jane Willis and death "Sep 5, 1911."
Elijah Miller Isbell's son, Dr. Arthur Levi Isbell, wrote to John F. Reeves, 6 Mar 1937, that his uncle James R. Isbell (Mr. Reeves' grandfather) was born in 1817 and the oldest child of Levi and Sarah Birdwell Isbell.
Censuses indicate 1824 is the correct birth date.

He married Nicey Jane Willis in 1845.
He married Arminda Gray 24 Dec. 1896, in Etowah County, Ala.

Exact location of grave is uncertain but said to be buried in Gadsden. Some family references say Gadsden city cemetery. Other family members say he was buried at Liberty Baptist Church, Rodenton, Dekalb County, Alabama where his son James was buried.

He married Nicey Jane Willis in 1845 and married twice more after her death.

"He was a physician and an ordained Baptist minister. He preached for several years before he was ordained by his father, Levi Isbell (recorded 1863, Fort Payne, DeKalb Co., Ala.). Elijah Miller Isbell, born 1840, and Elizabeth Jane Dowdy, born 1842, were married by Elijah's older brother, James Richardson, in 1862." (Arkansas Family Historian, vol. 15, no.2, April-June 1977, p. 67.)
