Rev. Charles Levi Isbell and wife Dorcus Jane (Allen) Hibbs Isbell. This photo was copied by Rev. Sherman Isbell in 1984 from a print in possession of Emily Isbell, widow of Robert Isbell, son of Zach and grandson of Charles Levi Isbell, and was labeled as such. In 1988 Sherman also copied another print of the same photo in possession of Nora Isbell McGriff, daughter of Elijah Miller Isbell, brother of Charles Levi Isbell. The identifications were the same. The same photo has since appeared on the internet (mis)identified as Charles Isbell's (and Elijah Miller Isbell's) first cousin William Zachary Isbell and his wife Jane Taylor. The couple strongly resembles Rev. Charles Levi Isbell and wife Jane Allen Hibbs Isbell. Jane also resembles her sister-in-law Jane Dowdy Isbell.

Rev. Charles Levi Isbell.

Rev. Sherman Isbell wrote: "Levi's youngest son Charles Levi Isbell was reputed to be the most knowledgeable of the preachers in the Wills Creek Baptist Association. Ordained at Old Bethel in 1889, he was followed in the ministry by two sons, a son-in-law, and three grandsons, most of whom preached at Old Bethel; among these, Zach Isbell and Charley Drain, ordained at Old Bethel in 1905 and 1919 respectively, were as famous in their generation as Charles Levi Isbell had been in his own day, for a godly life, and for their prayers and biblical exhortations. When C. L. Isbell was laid out for burial in April 1913, his coffin was decorated with the dogwood in bloom."
