Death of Mrs. Sarah Pogue

Sarah P. Pogue, daughter of Hannah and the late Alexander Middleton, and widow of William H. Pogue, died this morning, February 6th, 1890, at 20 minutes before 11 o'clock. The deceased was born in Switzerland County, Indiana, July 15th, 1844, and was united in marriage September 18th, 1864, to the late Wm. H. Pogue. This city has been her home for many years, and by her death three children, all sons, are left orphans, the oldest, John R. Pogue, being a well known young man engaged in the job department of this office.

When quite young the deceased united with the Methodist Church, the church of her own and her mother's choice, and maintained throughout her life an unsullied Christian character. A year or so ago the inroads of a dreadful cancer upon her forehead rendered it necessary for her to remain at home, and for months past she had lain in bed suffering patiently as the terrible disease steadily ate into her vitals.

All that loving hearts and tender hands could do was done to alleviate her pains, but no human aid was sufficient to prevent the inevitable, and death at last brought the relief shich the sufferer prayed for - peace crowned her brow, and the freed spirit entered that higher life upon which her aspirations had centered.

Beautiful toiler, thy work is all done,
Beautiful soul into glory gone,
Beautiful life with its crown now won,
God giveth thee rest.

Rest from all sorrows, and watchings and tears, Rest from all possible sighing and tears, Rest through God's endless, wonderful years -
At home with the blest.

Beautiful spirit, free from all pain,
Ours be heartache, sorrow and pain,
Thine is the glory and infinite gain -
Thy slumber is sweet.

The funeral will take place to-morrow at 3 p.m., from her late residence in West Madison, Rev. J. H. Martin, D.D., officiating.
