Charles Neilson (aka Nelson) Fort was the son of Peter Van Vranken Fort and Elizabeth Neilson, daughter of Charles Neilson of Stillwater, Saratoga county, New York. Charles was a grocer in Albany, New York. He married Agnes T. Hoy and had three sons - Charles Hoy Fort, Raymond Neilson Fort, and Clarence Van Vranken Fort. After Agnes' death, he married Blanche Evelyn Whitney.
