Joseph Malcolm Pickett, 77, passed away on Saturday, May 6, 2000.
A native of Wythe County, he had been a Peninsula resident since 1955.
Mr. Pickett was a pipefitter for the Local Union No. 540 and retired in 1988 after 41 years of service. He was a World War II Army veteran and a charter member of the Warwick Assembly of God.
He was a member of the Civilian Conservation Corps, and volunteered his assistance to the National Park Service with park restorations.
Mr. Pickett was a member of the Independent Hunt Club in King William County.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, granddaughter, a sister and five brothers.
He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Louise F. Pickett; three daughters, Betty P. Olson and her husband, Robert, of Grafton; Rebecca P. Mitchell and her husband, Ronald, of Dare; and Pamela P. Hall and her husband, Paul, of Hagerstown, Md.; two sons, Jeffery M. Pickett and his wife, Robin, of Grafton, and David W. Pickett of Yorktown; a sister, Frances Massey of Roanoke; a brother, Lawson B. Pickett of Hopewell; 10 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, May 10, at Amory Funeral Home Chapel, Grafton, with the Rev. Gregory S. Cox officiating. Burial will follow in Peninsula Memorial Park, Newport News.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Warwick Assembly of God, 1228 Todds Lane, Hampton, VA 23696.
