He was a member of the Church of God of Prophecy and was a retired employee of the Wythe County Courthouse. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary F. Hale Pickett; four brothers, James, Harrison, Ben and Charles Pickett; a sister, Thelma Robinson.
He is survived by his wife, Mildred Kelley Pickett of the home; three daughters and sons-in-law, Theresa and Jimmy Dalton of Hillsville, Va., Shirley and Kelly Puckett of Rural Retreat, Va., Kim Spraker and Robert Ayers of Hillsville, Va.; four sons and daughters-in-law, James and Carolyn Valko of Tifton, Ga., Frederick, Jr. and Katherine Pickett of Greensboro, N.C., David and Kim Pickett of White Marsh, Va., Gary and Gail Pickett of Richmond, Va.; three sisters, Frances Massey of Roanoke, Va., Ethel Harden of Crockett, Va., Doris Edwards of Norwalk, Calif.; three brothers, Joseph Pickett of Yorktown, Va., Lawson Pickett of Hopewell, Va., Curtis Pickett of Rural Retreat, Va.; fourteen grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 8, 2000 at 2 p.m. at the Barnett Funeral Chapel in Wytheville with the Rev. Sonny Ayers and the Rev. Tim Tatum officiating.
Interment will follow in the West End Cemetery. Graveside military rites will be conducted by American Legion Post #9.
The family will receive friends at the Barnett Funeral Home from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday or at the residence at any time.
The family suggests that those who prefer may make memorials to the American Cancer Society, 167 East Main Street, Abingdon, Va. Barnett Funeral Home in Wytheville, Va., is in charge of the
arrangements.
