"Johnstown Tribune," Johnstown, PA- Wednesday, May 13, 1896:

Sophia, wife of John Wissinger, died suddenly at her home in Jackson Township at

10:30 o'clock last night, presumably of heart failure. The deceased was a

daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. John Mackall, and was born in England about

fifty-four years ago. When she was about five years old her parents came to

America and located at Brady's Bend, Armstrong County, PA., where the family

resided a number of years, and then came to Johnstown. Here, in young womanhood,

the subject of these lines united in marriage with John Wissinger. A year or two

after their marriage Mr. and Mrs. Wissinger moved to the farm in Jackson

Township where the deceased spent the balance of her life. Beside her husband,

Mrs. Wissinger is survived by ten children and seventeen grandchildren. The

children in the order of their birth are: Mary, wife of Timothy GILLEN, of

Tanneryville; Albert of Rosedale; Sarah, wife of Watson GRUMBLING, of

Morrellville; Eli B., of Jackson Township; Lucy, wife of Stephen JAMES, of

Rosedale; Hannah, wife of Harry GRIFFITH, of Walnut Grove; Emma, wife of Harry

HORNER, of Rosedale; Hattie, wife of Harry VAN, of Coopersdale, and Jennie and

Walter at home. The deceased is also survived by two brothers and three

sisters-Edward and William MACKALL, of Rosedale and Jackson Township,

respectively; Mrs. J. J. STRAYER, of Morrellville; Mrs. Benjamin TEETER, of West

Taylor Township, and Mrs. Harry HESS, of Rosedale. Mrs. Wissinger was a

consistent member of the German Baptist Church nearly all her adult life, and

was known in the community in which she lived as a loving wife and mother and

a kind, Christian neighbor. The funeral will take place tomorrow morning, the

services commencing at 10 o'clock in the Benshoff Church, conducted by Rev.

George S. Rairigh. Internment will be made in the Benshoff Cemetery.
