Rane bought 100 acres from John Coyler in Lincoln County Kentucky 18 August 1789 (Deed Book, pages 411-412). He bought 680 acres on Little Barren River in Military County, Kentucky, 1 Sept. 1791 (Filson Club Publications, vol 33). Rane was granted administration of his brother Stephen McKinney's estate as requested by his relict (widow) Catherine McKinney on 23 Jan 1793 (Mercer County Will Book 1, pages 171-173). The 1795 Mercer County Kentucky Tax List has "Reaney" McKinney owning no slaves, horses or cattle. Rane sold 100 acres of land in Lincoln County Kentucky to Achilles Ballinger 24 April 1797 (Deed Book C, pages 264-265) On 22 May 1798 he was appointed administrator for his father's estate (Mercer County Kentucky Records, col 1, page 501, and Will Book 2, page 190) and inherited 300 acres in Logan County, Kentucky. This land adjoined the land of his deceased brother, Stephen. On 22 Jan 1799 Rane was appointed overseer of the road from Danville to Harrods Run as it leads to Harrodsburg, in place of Godfrey Smith (Mercer County Kentucky Records, vol 1 page 522). Reany McKinney appears on the 1800 Tax List for Mercer County Kentucky. A list of letters left at the post office in Danville, Kentucky, lists Rane McKinney in the 9 July 1802 issue of the The Kentucky Gazette. A notice regarding the estate sale by "Rainey McKinney" executor of the estate of Charles McKinney" is in the 14 December 1802 issue. Raney McKinney and William Mckinney, Senior, are listed as legatees in the will of Elizabeth Wetherford written 28 Nov 1812 and proven in April of 1813 (Adair County, Kentucky Will Book B, page 108). "Rainey McKinney is listed as a purchaser in the Hugart estate sale, January 1817 (Book B, page 2280 Rane purchased 3 parcels of land in Wayne County Kentucky on 27 March 1821, 200 acres from James Stone, 70 acres from Roger Oattes, and an additional 105 acres from James Stone (Deed Book C, pages 225-227 and 231-232). He bought 220 acres from Bartholomew Haden in Wayne County 5 July 1823 (Deed Book C, page 445) and 50 acres from Jesse Wilson 28 July 1833 (Deed Book F, pages 230-231). Rane operated a ferry on the Cumberland River about 8 miles north of Monticello Wayne County, Kentucky (County Court Records, Sept 1823). The boat landing was known as Robertsport and in 1845 a site for a town to be named Mckinneyville was laid out. This effort to establish a town failed in 1848. His farm is now under water (Lake Cumberland). He sold acreage received by land patent from the Commonwealth of Kentucky to Archibald McBeath in Wayne County 31 August 1836 (Deed Book G, pages 299-300). There was an 1849 sale of Rane McKinney's estate and he is mentioned in Kentucky ancestors, vol 23-24, pages 261, and in Cemetery Records of Mercer County Kentucky, vol 1, page 111.
