He departed this life on Sunday, July 15, 2012 at his residence in Mayesville. He attended the public schools in Clarendon County.
His memory will be cherished by ten children, Cleo Orange, Ft. Pierce, Florida, Thomas Benbow, Mayesville, Booker (Shirley) T. Benbow, Bishopville, Annie Mae (Paul) Garrett, Jersey City, N. J., Geraldine (Eddie) Montgomery, Bishopville, Christine McBride, Sumter, Gerald (Bertha) Benbow, Sumter, Melvin (Marie) Benbow, Wedgefield, Virginia (Roosevelt) Henry, Mayesville and Terry Benbow, Florence; one sister, Julia Wells, Sumter; fifty-eight grandchildren, seventy-three great grandchildren, eight great-great grandchildren; one son-in-law, Charles Vanderhorst, Conway, nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by three children, Aaron Benbow, Jr., Allen Benbow and Tyreatha B. Vanderhorst; three brothers, Frederick Benbow, James Benbow and Robert Benbow; five sisters, Mary Ellen Davis, Lula Wells, Laura Wheeler, Ethel Williams and Lizzie Williams. Viewing will be held Thursday, July 19, 2012 – 3 until 7 at Job's Mortuary.
Funeral services will be held Friday, July 20, 2012, 11:00 A. M. at Salem Chapel and Heritage Center (Westend Community Church) 101 Salem Avenue with the Rev. Dr. Jon R. Black, pastor of Ebenezer A. M. E. Church, eulogist, assisted by Rev. V. M. Humes. Interment will follow in Mayesville cemetery. Mr. Benbow will be placed in the church Friday, July 20, 2012, 10:00 A. M. for viewing until the hour of service.
The family is receiving friends at the home, 6 Congress Street, Mayesville, SC 29104.
