Charles was the son of William and Mary Bristow. He was a miner at the Gaston Mine near Graniteville. His father, Williaim, was a butcher who lived in Cherokee and who would deliver meats by wagon to North San Juan. Charles Frederick married Cora Hippert, daughter of Philip and Isabella Hippert, and they had one son, Charles Orion Bristow at the time of his death. Cora was pregnant with her second child, (Frederick Bristow who died at age 5 months of pneumonia) when her husband died from a terrible accident. Charles Frederick Bristow died while working the rock crusher machine at the Gaston Mine. Cora remarried a year later to Manfred Ethelbert "Bert" Reed, who was a butcher living in Graniteville.
