Jim "Woody" Lee Wood, 66, succumbed to his 3 ½ year battle with cancer on the 5th of July. A native of Merced, born the 24th of August, 1945, the son of Winnie Mae Bowman Wood Finn and Weldon Burnett Wood. Jim attended school in Merced.

In 1965 he married Nancy Jean DeBusk. They had two daughters, Carri Jean and Erika Lee. After their divorce, Jim moved to the coast, then to Fresno, where in 1982 he married Lynn Marie Thomas and had Joshua Morgan. For the next 20 years the family made their home in Lemoore where Jim was a very successful cotton ginner. He was instrumental in the structural reconfiguration of the cotton delivery system, which greatly reduced fire hazard potential during the ginning process. AC was sold to a foreign interest after which, Jim went to work at Harris Ranch for a time then, returned to Merced in 2000, working for his brother, John, at Richwood Meat.

An avid fisherman, he always looked forward to taking part in the annual Wood boys fishing contest where his nephew, Michael, would have everyone's rods sabotaged before they could cast. He also greatly enjoyed being a part of the crew on John's double A gas alcohol dragster. He and Josh spent many a weekend at the races, loving every minute with the family. He was a devoted, hard working family man and spent most of his days with family activities and his beloved garden. Each year, he cultivated a garden filled with vegetables from artichokes to watermelon which was just a part of the 5 acre parcel in Lemoore that he, Lynn, and Josh developed from dirt, an old milk barn, one huge Eucalyptus and an old Willow tree.

Preceding him in death: his mother; father; step-father, T. J. Finn; brother, Johnny Wood; and grandson, Justin Lee.

Surviving him to greatly mourn Jim's passing are his wife, Lynn; daughters, Carri and Erika; son, Josh; son-in-law, Bob Roberts; sister-in-laws, Carol Wood and Gayle Abouseda; nephews, Steven and Tracy Wood, Michael and Danielle Wood, Sherif Abouseda, Karim and Nergis Abouseda; grandchildren, Chad and Kelsey Trindade and Janie Roberts; great nieces, Shelby, Kelsey, Nichole, Katie, Kelli, Briton, and Amera; and great nephew, Audric.

The family would like to extend a very special thank you to doctors, Eugenia Garcia and Merla Puray of Merced for all their above and beyond the call assistance and expertise and to Ashley Johnson for all her support, love, and pictorial DVD's.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests a donation be made to the Helen Diller Comprehensive Cancer Center @ UCSF San Francisco, PO Box 45339, San Francisco, CA 94145-0339 for medullary thyroid cancer research or the Stanford Medical Center, 2700 Sand Hill Rd., Menlo Park, CA 94025 for pancreas cancer research.

Jim's celebration of life memorial will be held Saturday July 14th @ 3:00 pm at Stratford Evans Merced Funeral Home, 1490 B Street, Merced.

Arrangements are under the direction of Stratford Evans Merced Funeral Home.
