Winnie Mae Bowman Finn, 89 years 3 months and 28 days of age, has departed this life. Our most beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt and friend died of congestive heart failure on the 15th of February 2009.

Born Winnie Mae Bowman, on the 18th of October 1919 in Wright Township, Jefferson County, Oklahoma, was the daughter of Robert Clayton and Dollie Eunice Newsom Bowman. The family moved to the Merced county area in the early 1940s, where Winnie resided the remainder of her life. She loved to cook and was, often without the use of a pattern, an outstanding seamstress. At the age of 32 she became a Christian, devoting the rest of her life to serving the Lord. She and her late husband, T. J. Finn, MG, founded the Home Missions Chapel in 1966. The Chapel served the Merced community for approximately 30 years, bringing many to the Lord, teaching responsibility and accountability through the love of Jesus Christ our Savior. A long standing member of the Christian Women's Aglow International, she was also a Minister of the Gospel. She presided over marriage ceremonies, conducted Bible study classes and the door at her home was always open for all to enter. She treasured every person that touched her life. A powerfully dedicated mentor and spiritual leader, she will be greatly missed. She is preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Dollie; 6 brothers, Theadore, Louis, William, Johnnie, Robert and Thomas; one sister, Frances L. Brooks; her husband, T. J. Finn; a son, Johnny C. Wood, all of Merced; and a great grandson, Justin Hogan of Arkansas.

She is survived by a brother, G. W. Bowman, the last surviving member of his father's family; a son, Jim Wood and his wife Lynn; a daughter-in-law, Carol Wood; grandsons, Steve Wood and his wife Tracy, Mike Wood and his wife, Danielle and Joshua Wood; granddaughters, Carri Trindade and Erika Roberts and her husband Bob; many nieces and nephews and, most cherished of all, Winnie's 8 great grandchildren. The joy and love "Grammie Winnie" showered on her family have provided treasured memories and many happy stories. She may be gone from us but she will never be far from our hearts.

Winnie's family would like to acknowledge and extend a very special thank you to Dr. Eugenia Garcia and all the staff at Anberry Rehabilitation Center for their tireless devotion, outstanding care and tender kindness.
