Helen Lenore Wilson Aspseter, 102, of Exeland, died on Wednesday, Oct. 26, 2011, at the Ladysmith Nursing Home.

Helen was born on July 18, 1909, to Fred and Bessie (Turner) Wilson in Brainerd, Minn. She graduated from North High School in Minneapolis, Minn., in 1927 She attended Bible School in Des Moines, Iowa, and then went to Normal School.

Helen married Andrew Aspseter on Dec. 24, 1935, at her parents home in Glen Flora. They lived in Exeland for all their 68 years of marriage.

She played the organ and piano for 75 years at the Exeland Methodist Church. She also played for many funerals and weddings at various churches throughout her lifetime.

Helen taught piano lessons for more than 60 years to many students including her two daughters. She wrote three books of gospel songs.

She was also artistic with oil paintings and calligraphy.

Helen was busy with many activities such as a 4-H leader, Sunday School teacher, women's society president, Bible Study teacher, lay speaker and PTA president. In her later years, she enjoyed playing Scrabble, Skipbo and Trianimal.

Her favorite expression the last year of her life was, "I do not feel a day over 100."

Helen is survived by her son Robert (Karen) Aspseter of Alexandria, Minn., daughters Bonnie Hoffman of Colorado and Andrea (Dorsey) Petersen of Ellsworth; her grandchildren Judy (Quentin) Tydeman of Groveland, Fla., Christy (Ray) Fuller of Irving, Texas, Cory, Andy, and Carmin Aspseter of Alexandria, Minn., Marty Aspseter, and Kent Hoffman of Rocky Ford, Colo.; and her great-grandsons Rhys Tydeman, Eric Tydeman, Andrew Fuller and Gus Fuller.

She was preceded in death by her husband Andy, who passed away on Dec. 21, 2003; her parents; her sons Dennis and Bobby; and her sister June.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, Nov. 1, at the Exeland United Methodist Church with Rev. Mark Bartlett officiating. Burial will be in the Windfall Cemetery.

The Nash-Jackan Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements.
