Ida May was the daughter of William Paul McKinley and Mary Chandler. The family moved to Norton County, Kansas, around 1885, and Ida May married William Harvey Drake there 22 Aug 1886. Their first child, Harvey Langdon Drake, was born in Norton County in 1888. In 1894, Ida's father and brother were wrongly lynched for the murder of Ida's brother-in-law (another brother confessed to the crime, but was not punished), and the family all moved out of Kansas, and back to Iowa. Five more children were born to Ida and her husband in Iowa: Jessie Edna, William Horace, Lula May Frances, Pearl V, and Leon Virgil. The family then moved to Woods County, Oklahoma, where two more children were born: Howard Tillman and Ruby Dorothy. Ida May and William apparently separated before 1908, and Ida described herself as divorced by 1910, although no evidence of a divorce has been found. Ida May died in 1926, after having been in California for only five months. I believe she was ill, and came to live with her oldest son and his family, who lived in Lynwood Park. She was my great grandmother and I have been searching for her for many years, only to find that she was buried in Woodlawn.
