MOCKSVILLE - Philip David Livengood, 80, of Mocksville died Sunday, July 17, 2005, at the V.A. Hospital in Salisbury. He had been in declining health for the past three years. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ellis M. Livengood Sr. and Blanch Craft Livengood; his first wife, Ruth Moser Livengood; a sister, Mildred Hendrix; and a brother, Ellis M. Livengood Jr. Philip graduated from Oldtown High School and attended Mars Hill College. During World War II, he served as a Navy corpsman in Bethesda, Md. He was a lifelong member of Mount Tabor United Methodist Church in Winston-Salem, where he served as a Sunday school superintendent and also enjoyed singing bass in a gospel quartet. Philip retired from Superior Oil Co. He was a member of the Mount Tabor Fire Department for 25 years. Upon retirement from Superior Oil Co., he and his wife, Stella, moved to Mocksville, where they enjoyed traveling overseas and all over the U.S., especially the Southwest. Philip was known locally for his beautiful rose garden and was an active member of the Winston-Salem Rose Society. Philip is survived by his wife, Stella Reed Livengood of Mocksville; her son, Jeff Ayers and his wife, Bonnie, of Mocksville; and their daughter, Sarah Ayers of Raleigh. Also surviving are his daughter, Patricia Livengood and her husband, Tom, of Bermuda Run; and their daughters, Heather Hill and her husband, Steve, of Southmont, Ashley Livengood of Clemmons and Julie Dixon and her husband, Scott, of Advance. Philip had four great-grandsons, Dustin and Daniel Shronts of Apex, Jade Waller of Clemmons and Aidan Dixon of Advance. He is survived by two brothers, Thurmond and Joe Livengood of Winston-Salem. The family will receive friends from 12:30 to 2 p.m. today, July 20, at the funeral home. A celebration of Philip Livengood's life will be conducted by the Rev. G. Carroll Jordan at Davie Funeral Service Chapel in Mocksville directly after the visitation. Burial will follow at Mount Tabor United Methodist Church Cemetery, 3543 Robin Hood Road, Winston-Salem, where military rites will be presented by District 11 Memorial Honor Guard. The Livengood family wishes to especially thank the doctors, nurses, aides and other staff members at the Salisbury V.A. Hospital for taking such loving care of Philip during his extended illness.
