Joseph "Joe" Edward Livengood passed away Thursday, June 4, 2009. He was born August 24, 1920, to Ellis and Blanche Livengood. He grew up in the Mt. Tabor community and was a life-long, active member of Mt. Tabor United Methodist Church. He served in the U.S. Navy on the U.S.S. Bennington during WWII. He was a founding member of the Mt. Tabor Volunteer Fire Department and was a retired electrician with AT&T. Joe was happiest when he could help and bring smiles to family, friends, neighbors, and strangers. He is survived by two sons, Mike Livengood and wife, Janie of Winston-Salem and Ed Livengood and wife, Vassar of Slater, SC; a grandson, Daniel Livengood and wife, Nichole and their daughter, Sierra of Marietta, SC; a granddaughter, Elizabeth Livengood Duttera and husband, Thomas of Atlanta, GA; one brother, Thurm Livengood and wife, Betty; and numerous sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Whitman Livengood, to whom he was married for 64 years; two brothers, E.M. Livengood and Phil Livengood; and one sister, Mildred Livengood Hendrix. A Funeral Service for Mr. Livengood will be held at 2 p.m. today at Mt. Tabor United Methodist Church with Dr. Earl Wilson and the Rev. Gary Mahathey officiating. Interment will follow in Forsyth Memorial Park.
