Jacob Irving Fort was the son of Frederick Wood Fort and Julia Brown (b. 1853).

He married Alice R FOGG on 21 October 1912 in Mount Vernon, West Chester, NY.

He later married E Dorothy FOGG in about 1930.

His obituary notes that he received his A.B. degree from Columbia University in 1903 and his M.D. from the College of Physicians and Surgeons, Columbia University in 1907. He served as an intern for two years at Bellevue Hospital an was resident surgeon at Mt. Sinai Hospital, both in New York, before establishing his practice in Newark, NJ in 1911.

Dr. Fort was chief of staff of the bone and fracture service at St. Michael's Hospital, the Presbyterian Hospital and the Babies Hospital, all in Newark.

He was a member of the Board of Governors of the Anatomical and Pathological Society of New Jersey, a member of the Society of Surgeons of New Jersey, the Doctors Club, the Practitioners Club, the American Medical Society and the New Jersey state and Essex County Medical Societies.

Surviving are his widow, Dorothy Fort; a daughter, Miss Dale Joan Fort; and a sister, Miss Marion B. Fort of Maplewood, NJ.
