Age 79, Catherine passed away on Sunday, June 17, 2012 at her residence in Independence. She was a loving Sister, Mother, Grandmother and A Member of Lighthouse Baptist Church.
Catherine leaves behind 4 daughters, Mary Lou Maurer and husband Stanley, Katie Crain, Patricia Smith and husband Terry, all of Independence, Alisha Cooper and fiancé John Tate of St. Landry LA; GRANDCHILDREN, Steven(Buckwheat) Maurer and Betty Maurer,Catherine Mason & husband Gary, and Amanda Maurer all of Independence ,Randy Miller & wife Teresa of Springfield, Vannie Wayne Cooper and Ashley Hines of Pumpkin Center, Eric Miller of Springfield, Alan Grice & wife Michelle of Independence,Eddie Joe Cooper and Tabatha Rider of Eunice, Toler Day Smith & wife Cassandra(Casey) of Independence, Brittany Fay Smith and Preston Addison of Albany. ;GREAT-GRANDCHILDREN:Steven Pete Maurer,Cory and Jordon maurer, Cheyenne Landry & Siarrah Perry, Alex Miller all of Independence,Seth and Ali Miller of Pinegrove, Ryleigh Miller of Albany, London and Noah Cooper of Albany, Miley Grice of Independence, step-grandchildren, Myka & Shyla Pelican of Eunice, Stephen Jospeh (T-Joe)Berlinger, Jr. & wife Christina of Eunice; also 7 STEP GREAT GRANDCHILREN. She is also survived by 7 siblings, Harold Whiddon and wife Fannie, Charles Whiddon and wife Maggie, Rono Whiddon and wife Louanna, Travis Whiddon and wife Linda Jean, Edith Perry, and Linda Miller and husband Huey, all of Independence, and Alice Bourgeois and husband Roland of Ponchatoula and numerous nieces and nephews.
Catherine was preceded in death by her husband Vannie Cooper Sr.; son Vannie Cooper Jr ("Pete Jr."); parents, Harley and Lourena (Thomas) Whiddon;Niece Pamela Ann Whiddon and granddaughter-in-law Dorey Conde.
Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the visitation from Lighthouse Baptist Church on Tuesday, June 19, 2012 from 6:00 p.m. until funeral service on Wednesday, June 20, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. Rev. Kenny Blackwell & Rev. Nathan Firmin will conduct the Funeral Service and interment will follow in Sandhill cemetery.
