Born Dec. 9, 1904, in Grantsville, he was a son of the late Clarence I. and Melissa (Warnick) Custer. He also was preceded in death by his wife, Effie (Friend) Custer, in 1979.
Mr. Custer was a retired farmer and a member of the Mountain Top Christian Assembly.
Surviving are six sons, Hubert G. Custer, Deer Park, Melvin R. Custer, Swanton, Dale H. Custer, Oakland, Leo P. Custer, Swanton, Roger W. Custer, Keyser, and Clarence I. Custer, Oakland; four daughters, Evelyn Steyer, Oakland, Phyllis Knepp, Red House, Mary Bishop, North Huntingdon, Pa., and Shirley Bernard, Oakland; 32 grandchildren; and 50 great-grandchildren.
Friends will be received at the Durst Funeral Home, Oakland on Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. and on Saturday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the Mountain Top Christian Assembly on Sunday at 2 p.m., with the Rev. Gail Hixon and the Rev. Franklin Bishop officiating.
Interment will be in Garrett County Memorial Gardens.
The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to the Southern Rescue Squad or the Mountain Top Christian Assembly.
