OAKLAND,MARYLAND -- Clarence Irvin Custer, 85, of near here, died today in Garrett County Memorial Hospital where he was admitted yesterday.

Born in Swanton, September 6, 1876, he was a son of the late Richard and Alice (Stanton) Custer and lived his entire life in Garrett County. He moved from North Glade, where he had been a farmer all of his life to a smaller farm near Oakland.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Melissa (Warnick) Custer; three daughters, Mrs. Edna Bernard, Mrs. Pearl Brenneman and Mrs. Bernie Beachy, all of Swanton; one son, Heyward S. Custer, Oakland; one sister, Mrs. Jane Gimble, Beckley, W. Va.; two brothers, Thomas S. Custer, Oakland, and R. Ray Custer, Swanton; 25 grandchildren and 42 great grandchildren.

The body is at the Leighton funeral Home, Oakland, where the family will receive friends tomorrow and Friday, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Services will be conducted by Rev. Clarence Winkler, pastor of the North Glade Methodist Church, there, Saturday at 2 p.m. He will be assisted by Rev. J. C. Skipper, pastor of the Sand Flat Assembly of God.

Interment will be in the Fitzwater Cemetery, North Glade.
