Lottie Stewart Shepherd, 100, of Roanoke, died Thursday, October 14, 1999 at her home. She was born in Guilford, N. C. on January 5, 1899, a daughter of the late David and Jodie Stewart. Mrs. Shepherd received her education at Flora McDonald College (now St. Andrews Presbyterian College) and the Womens College (now University of North Carolina at Greensboro) and had taught school in Guilford County and Greensboro City Schools until she married and moved to Roanoke in 1927. She was a long time member of First Presbyterian Church where she taught Sunday School, was President of the Women of the Church, and served on the Presbyterial Board. Lottie was a member of the South Roanoke Garden Club, Thursday Morning Music Club, Roanoke Symphony Auxiliary, and the Blue Ridge Forum. She was the widow of Hilliard W. Shepherd, Sr., co-founder of Shepherd's Auto Supply. Surviving are her son and daughter-in-law, H. William (Bill) Jr. and Lori Shepherd, Reno, Nev.; her grandsons, John Stewart Shepherd and wife, Cynthia, Castle Pines, Colo., Scott Franklin Shepherd and wife, Linette, Reno, Nev.; her great-granddaughters, Jordan and Ryann Shepherd. A funeral service will be held in the Lapsley Chapel at First Presbyterian Church, Monday, October 18, 1999, 2 p.m. with the Rev. Robert D. Smith and Dr. Murphy D. Miller officiating. Interment in Evergreen Burial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Campbell Memorial Fund at First Presbyterian Church or a charity of one's choice. The family will receive friends Sunday, 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., at Oakey's Roanoke Chapel (Church Ave.).
