Mrs. Lucy Huff Buried on Her 81st Birthday

LaHarpe Native Had Spent Past Several Years in Peoria

Last rites were held in the Radden funeral home here yesterday afternoon for a well-known former LaHarpe citizen, Mrs. Lucy (Collins) Huff, who passed away in Peoria on Sunday, November 25, 1956 just two days before she would have observed her 81st birthday.

Rev. A. G. Vail of the CHristian church officiated, and interment was made in LaHarpe cemetery.

Mrs. Huff, widow of Mason Huff, passed away at 3:00 p. m. in the home of a granddaughter, Mrs. Berniece Wall, in Peoria after an illness of about two months.

She was born November 27, 1875 in this community, a daughter of Benjamin Franklin and Harriet (Dunham) Carnes. She spent her girlhood and a portion of her later life here and was a member of the Christian church. Her marriage to Thomas L. Collins occurred on December 17, 1891. Two children of the marriage survive, Archie Collins of LaHarpe and Mrs. Virgie Fisher of Peoria.

Mrs. Huff and Mason Henry Huff were married on July 5, 1898. They spent most of their married life in Peoria, but for a short time prior to his death in 1950 resided here.

Left to mourn her passing are the son and daughter, a sister, Mrs. Mintie Spiker, of LaHarpe; 14 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren. Two sons, two brothers, four sisters and one grandson preceded her in death.
