Sister Mary Noel was born to Louis and Zildah (Navarre) Luby on July 19, 1929, in Rhinelander, Wis. Sister Mary Noel served as a homemaker for twenty years in convents of the Franciscan Sisters in Idaho, Iowa and Wisconsin. In 1971, she entered the health care profession and ministered as an occupational therapist for nineteen years in nursing homes in Iowa, Illinois, Minnesota, and Wisconsin. From 1990, until her death she served as a volunteer for Senior Answer Line, a subsidiary of United Way, and First Call for Help at Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center.
Sister Mary Noel is survived by her Franciscan Community; a brother; a sister, Mariquity Luby, FSPA, La Crosse, Wis.; a sister-in-law; and first cousin, Eudora Navarre, FSPA, La Crosse; and nieces and nephews. Sister Mary Noel was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers and one sister.
Friends may call after 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 7, when the body will be met at St. Rose Convent, La Crosse. A prayer service will follow in Mary of the Angels Chapel. Reverend John L. Parr, Director, Office of Ministries, La Crosse Diocese, will preside at the Mass of Christian Burial on Monday, Dec. 7, at 2 p.m., in Mary of the Angels Chapel. Burial will be in Gate of Heaven Catholic Cemetery, La Crosse. Memorials may be sent to Franciscan Sisters of Perpetual Adoration, 912 Market St., La Crosse, Wis., 54601-8800. Dickinson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
