Services were scheduled at 10:00 a.m. Friday, July 30, at Mayhill Church of Christ in Mayhill, N.M. for Bonnie Powell, 5071 Rio Penasco Road, Hope, N. M.

Mrs. Powell, 79, died Tuesday, July 27, 2010 in Roswell, N.M.

Eddy Coleman and Dub Cox will officiate at the services with burial at Elk Cemetery in Elk, N. M. Pallbearers will be Jim Ellett, Joe Gutierrez, Gary McClain, Mike Joy, Charles Mulcock, and Bernard Cleve. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. Thursday at Terpening & Son Mortuary.

Bonnie was born September 18, 1930 in Lakewood, N. M.; the daughter of James Taylor Ross and Charity Frances (Brazeal) Ross. She was a lifelong resident of Penasco River area.

On January 6, 1952 she was married to Hezzie Jay Powell in Artesia. He preceded her in death December 21, 2009. She was also preceded in death by her parents; by a son Brent Powell; and by brothers Alton Ross, Carl Ross, and Joe Ross; and sister Jewel Hickman.

She was a rancher's wife, member of the Mayhill Church of Christ, and member of the Penasco Volunteer Fire Department for over 50 years. Survivors include her son Jay Powell and wife Kristy of Penasco River, N. M.; sister Myrtle Herd of Florida; sister-in-law Ruby Ross of Artesia; grandchildren Justin Powell of Dexter, N.M., Jaime Reed and husband Randy of Las Cruces, N. M., and Bryan Hunter and wife Jessica of Albuquerque, N.M.; great-grandchildren Jane Powell, Cohen Reed, and Corbin Reed;
