She was born April 25, 1925, and was a lifelong resident of the Jacksonville area. She was a member of Friendship Baptist Church of Corine. She worked 25 years at J.A. Staton Building Materials where she was known as the "Paint Lady" for her ability to match and mix paint colors, and also worked for Ann Womack for 15 years at the Work Basket.
She was preceded in death by her parents, E.W. and Emily Wells Walker, and son-in-law, Gene Simmons.
Survivors include her husband of 60 years, J.C. Jonas, Jacksonville; daughter, Linda Simmons, Jacksonville; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Loyce and Joe Mak Lanier, Rusk; two grandchildren, Cindy and husband Greg Allen, Richie and wife Kim Simmons; two great-grandchildren, Kyle and Colton Allen.
Burial will be in Corine Cemetery. Pallbearers are Dale Stewart, Lewie Lake, Darvis Davis, Rex Pugh, G.E. Casper, Freddy Carroll and F.E. Hassell.
