He was born on July 18, 1950 to Joseph and Ruth (Scheibe) Ardis in Houston and raised in Odessa. Joseph was previously a Police Officer in Odessa and then worked for 27 years as a High School Math Teacher for East Bernard ISD. On June 8, 1974 he married Barbara Smith.
Joseph is survived by his wife, Barbara Smith Ardis of East Bernard; daughter, Lisbeth Cornwall and husband Robert of Conroe; son, Bryan Ardis of Houston; sister, Betty Jo Biedermann and husband Glenn of Ponca City, Okla.; and six grandchildren, Joshua, Daniel, Zachary, Robert Alan, Julie and Ryan. He also survived by brothers-in-law, Russel Smith, and Mitchel Smith and wife Patsy.
He was greatly loved by his nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by father, Joseph I. Ardis; mother, Ruth Scheibe Ardis; and sister, Susan Moser.
Visitation took place July 1, at Henneke Funeral Home in Columbus, and at the First United Methodist Church in East Bernard, on July 2. Funeral services took place, July 2, 2012 at the First United Methodist Church in East Bernard with the Rev. Alex Lupo officiating. Burial followed at Lehrer Memorial Cemetery near Garwood.
Pallbearers were Thomas Garrett, Grant Biedermann, Clyde Hill, Brennam Jobe, Jeffrey Baldwin and Harvey Owens.
