Lois A. Burmeister, 88, formerly of Clovis, New Mexico, died Friday, July 13, 2012, at Kansas Christian Home in Newton, Kansas. She was born September 2, 1923, in Floydada, Texas, to Jesse and Ruth (Giles) Hawkins.

She married Emmett Thompson on May 17, 1943.

He preceded her in death. She later married Bob Burmeister on September 19, 1961. He also preceded her in death.

Lois is survived by her son, Don Thompson, and wife, Stephanie, and granddaughter, Mariah Thompson, of Newton, Kansas; grandson, Aaron Thompson, and wife, Brittany, and great-grandson, Wilder, of Laramie, Wyoming; brother-in-law, Arnold Jolly, of Amarillo, Texas; and many nieces and nephews and their families.

She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Ben Hawkins and J. L. Hawkins, and two sisters, Nellie Bonner and Tina Faye Jolly.

Lois was a graduate of the Scott-White nursing program in Temple, Texas. She loved her many years as a nurse in a variety of settings, especially in the neo-natal unit at the Clovis High Plains Hospital in Clovis, New Mexico.

Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 18, 2012, at the Steed-Todd Funeral Home in Clovis, New Mexico with B.J. Brooks officiating. Interment will follow at Lawn Haven Memorial Gardens in Clovis, New Mexico.

Arrangements are under the care and direction of Steed-Todd Funeral Home and Crematory.
