He graduated from Haverford College in 1844 and moved to Montgomery county, Maryland in 1847 and engaged in farming. (1847 reported in his obituary but the 1850 census has him in Philadelphia on 21 August and in Cracklin, Montgomery, MD on 21 September.)
On 13 Jan 1852 he married Anna Elizabeth Stabler in Lynchburg, VA. They were the parents of William Davis and Charles Robinson. He was widowed 19 Jan 1892.
He was a director at Mutual Fire Insurance Co of Montgomery County for 36 years, last re-elected on 1 Jan 1900.
He died of heart disease.
