Alfred D. Sater of Longmont died October 13, 2011 at Longmont United Hospital. He was 88 years old.


Alfred was born on January 1, 1923 on the family homestead near Burlington, Colorado, the son of Lawrence and Harriett (McCannon) Sater. He honorably served in the U.S. Army from January 22, 1945 to November 29, 1946 as a Private First Class in the Philippines.

Alfred married Lorraine Embree on December 11, 1949 in Ft. Lupton. He farmed on Weld County Road 24 for 59 years and was still farming at his death.

He was a member of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Alfred was a charter member of the Weld County Farm Bureau and served as President of the Lower Boulder and Coal Ridge Ditch Companies for many years. He was instrumental in getting the rural area east of DelCamino included in the Mountain View Fire Protection District.

He was preceded in death by his parents and by a son, Tim Sater in 2004.

Alfred is survived by his loving wife, Lorraine of Longmont; a son, Paul Sater (Cindy) of Kersey; two daughters, Marj Sater and Rashelle Richardson (Jeff), both of Longmont; a daughter-in-law, Sara Sater of Firestone; a brother, Don Sater of Commerce City; a sister, Viola Nichols (Bruce) of Longmont; eight grandchildren, Brenda (Rob), Jarred (Tammy), Melissa (Mike), Cyndi (Aaron), Alaina (Justin), Paul, Will and Gus and seven great-grandchildren.

A visitation will be held from 9:30 - 10:30AM with a funeral service beginning at 10:30AM on Tuesday, October 18, 2011; all services will be held at Ahlberg Funeral Chapel. Interment at Hillside Cemetery in Ft. Lupton. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you do a random act of kindness for someone in Alfred's memory.
