CHARLES CITY (AP) - James Alfred Taylor, a grandson of President John Tyler and commonwealth's attorney of Charles City County for 32 years before retiring in 1963, died Thursday in a Richmond nursing home.

A funeral service will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at Westover Episcopal Church in Charles City. Burial will be in Hollywood Cemetery at Richmond.Tyler lived on the family estate, Sherwood Forest in Charles City County. He was graduated from the University of Virginia and the university's Law School. He practiced law briefly on Wall Street in New York City before returning to Virginia.He was elected commonwealth's attorney of his home county in 1927 and served until 1951 when he was defeated by a cousin, Lyon G. Tyler Jr., another grandson of President Tyler. Four years later, he won re-election and served until 1963 when he again was unseated.Survivors include a son, James A. Tyler Jr. of Charles City; two daughters, Mrs. G.E. Stover Jr. of Richmond and Miss Emily T. Tyler of Greensboro, N.C.; a brother, D.H. Gardner Tyler of Charles City; two sisters, Mrs. George P. Gale of La Jolla, Calif., and Mrs. Stephen Chadwick of Seattle, Wash., and four grandchildren.Danville, Virginia Register: July 29, 1972
