He was a U.S. Army Veteran serving from 1955 to 1958. On June 20, 1959, he was united in marriage to Dorothy M. Eder in Glidden. He worked road construction for over 45 years who loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and building log cabins. He was very well known for his massive birdfeeders.
Survivors include his wife of 58 years Dorothy of Mellen; daughters Dorothy "Chip" (Michael) Nortunen of Highbridge, Darlene (Louie) Carl of Glidden, Denise (Kenneth) Lutz of Mellen, and Diana (Dave Paff) Young of Mellen; sons: Daniel, Jr. of Ashland and Donald of Mellen; 17 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren; sister Margaret (Bill) Dahl of Mellen; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers George, John, Sylvester and Alvin, infant sister: Katherine, grandson: Michael Nortunen and his canine companion, Spike.
A private family memorial service for Daniel will be held at a later date.
Private family interment in Mount Hope Cemetery, Highbridge, will take place at a later date.
