James W. Brown is a native of Lincoln Co. His parents, Andrew Brown and wife came from North Carolina and settled in clark township, Lincoln Co. in 1824. They were among the early settlers. Mr. Brown was born within a mile of where he now lives in Clark township, April 14,1841, and was educated in the common district schools, was married in 1863 to Miss Susan E. Owen by whom he had six chilren, five of whom are living. His first wife died in 1870, afterward was married to Miss Fannie Kemper who died in February 1884 leaving him with three children. In 1886 was married to Bette Thompson his present wife by whom he has two children. Mr. Brown is a prominent farmer and stock raiser. He was superintendent of the County farm for many years and has served one term as a Public Administrator of Lincoln County. He served as part of the first of the late(sic) civil war under Gen. Price. He is a free Democrat of the Jeffersonian type and is very popular in the community in which he lives. He will be a candidate for Presiding Judge of the Lincoln County Court, subject to the Democratic primary of 1902. He has a host of friends that will stand around him with votes.
