Alice was the second of three children, all girls, born to Joseph and Harriet BRANCH. First child was Ada Jane BRANCH, born 20 Jan 1867, died 1868, age 1 year, buried in Austin MM. The next year Alice was born, and six years later on 15 Oct 1875, Alice's younger sister May Edith Branch arrived. May lived to the age of 8, when Alice was only 14 and the only child to live to adulthood.

Mrs. Alice Briggs, a pioneer homesteader in Big Stone County of 68 years ago, passed away at the Ortonville hospital on Friday, July 1. The 80-year-old pioneer woman had come to the county with her parents in a covered wagon at the age of 12.
The funeral service was held Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m. in the Schoen chapel at Ortonville, with the Rev. Charles Sheffield conducting the rites. A duet "God's Way is the Best Way" was offered by H. W. Kollitz and Miss Mary Stegner, and Mr. Kollitz sang a solo, "Beneath the Cross of Jesus."
Pallbearers were D. P. Jenk, James Martinson, Lester Johnson, R. V. Hasslen, Harland Hasslen and Charles Hundeby. Mrs. Briggs was laid to rest in the Beardsley cemetery, with tyhe Rev. S.A.Norlemann, pastor of the BEardsley Methodist church, conducting the graveside service.
Mrs. Briggs was born Alice M. Branch at Austin, Minn., on April 27, 1869, and she was the daughter of Joseph and Harriet Branch. The family moved from Austin to Big Stone County in the spring of 1881, setling on a homestead near Beardsley whre Alice grew to womanhood.
In the fall of 1886, she was united in marriage to Oscar S. Briggs, and five children were born to the union.
Her husband and one son, Alvah, having preceded her in death, Mrs. Briggs is survived by her daughters, Bessie Hundeby of Beardsley and Mable Hasslen of Ortonville, and her two sons, Vern of Palm Springs CA, and Frank of the Veterans Hospital in St. Cloud.
She also leaves nine children and 12 great grandchildren in addition to a host of friends. She was a member of the First Methodist church of Ortonville and also a member of the grandmothers club.
