Mr. Robert Lloyd "Chappy The Clown" Chapline,64, of Springbrook Court, Middletown, died Tuesday, June 8, at his home.

He was the husband of Barbara Ann Shetley Chapline. They were married for 43 years.

Born May 16, 1935, in Baltimore, he was the son of the late Lyle Delauder and Catherine Messick Manning Chapline.

Mr. Chapline retired in 1991 from DynaTech in Woodbridge, Va. where he had been employed in the electronic field for 35 years. He was previously employed at Goddard Space Center, IBM and Watkins/Johnson.

After his retirement, he became a professional clown known as "Chappy the Clown." He performed at birthday parties, Pizza Hut, nursing homes and hospitals all around the area.

Mr. Chapline also volunteered many hours with the Frederick Rescue Mission in Frederick.

He was a member of Victory Tabernacle of Thurmont.

He served in the U.S. Army.

Surviving in addition to his wife are three sons, Robert Lloyd Chapline, Jr. of Middletown, Jeffery William Chapline and wife Marcie of Amberton, Pa, and Douglas Scott Chapline and wife Rayna of Richmond, Va; six grandchildren, Brook, Bambi and Crystal Chapline, Chad and Corey Conklin, and Jesse Lapole; two great grandchildren. Christopher Chapline and Jasmin Allen; two sisters,Catherine Daniels of Ellicott City, and Rosa Alfano of Sterling Park, Va, and numerous neices and nephews.

Mr. Chapline was preceded in death by three brothers, Lyle Delauder Jr., Edward, and Billy Chapline, and two sisters, Bedora Avgolaus and Dorothea Stoddard.
